Private Music Instruction

All Ages

A Lifelong Love of Music Starts (and Continues) Here

Private music lessons with an approach that emphasizes mindful attention to sound, breath, and the development of musical understanding alongside technical skill. Whether you're a beginning student, returning to music after time away, or seeking to deepen your practice, I work with students of all ages to cultivate both technical facility and genuine musical expression.

French Horn

Classical French horn instruction for students of all ages and skill levels. I work with beginners through advanced players:

  • Breath control and tone production

  • Technical facility and musical phrasing

  • Repertoire selection and interpretation

  • Mindful attention to sound and expression

Whether you're just starting out or returning to the horn after time away, lessons focus on developing both technical skill and genuine musical joy.

Piano

Beginning piano instruction incorporating the Musikgarten Early PIano approach, building strong foundations in:

  • Technique and hand position

  • Note-reading and musical literacy

  • Rhythm, melody, and expression

  • Patient, developmental pacing

For beginners of any age — young children, adults returning to music, and students starting piano for the first time.

For advanced or pre-conservatory study, I'm glad to refer you to trusted colleagues.

Composition and Theory

For students interested in creating their own music or deepening their understanding of how music works. We explore:

  • Musical structure and form

  • Harmony, melody, and rhythm

  • The creative compositional process

  • Analysis and listening skills

Lessons are tailored to your interests and goals, whether you're composing your first piece or developing advanced theoretical understanding.

For Band Directors

I teach French horn privately in Ridgewood and welcome referrals from area band programs. If you have a student who needs more individual attention than a rehearsal schedule allows, I'm glad to work with them.

What I offer:

  • 45-minute private lessons, after school on weekdays

  • Beginners through advanced players — including students on single horns

  • Focus on breath support, tone production, embouchure, and reading fluency including transposition

  • Repertoire and technique work aligned with what students are playing in your program

  • Lessons are $75 per 45-minute session, in my Ridgewood home studio.

Horn-specific instruction. I hold a degree in composition from the Indiana University School of Music, where I studied horn with Richard Seraphinoff and Michael Hatfield. I hold a New Jersey Teaching Certificate with Endorsement 2100 in Music.

Happy to visit your program. I'm available to come in for a demo or sectional — a chance for students to hear the instrument up close and ask questions, with no obligation.
